Lovro Korošec | Barbara Verhovnik

Slovenia

Lovro Korošec started singing at the age of 9 and made his first operatic debut in the opereta Melodies

of the heart (Janko Gregorc) as a young treble singer. Years later he finished his bachelor as a baritone

at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana with prof. Pia Brodnik. At the moment he is studying

with prof. Tom Sol at the KUG in Graz.

During his studies, he participated as a soloist in various opera projects, in the operetta The Hops

Princess (R. Gobec) and most recently in new Slovenian operas Julia (A. Makovac) and The girl with the

matches (Tina Mauko).

At KUG he has performed as Il Conte in the production of Le nozze di Figaro (W. A. Mozart) and as Mr.

Gedge in a production of Albert Herring (B. Britten)

He did three concert productions of repertoire operas with Maestro George Pehlivanian, Le nozze di

Figaro and Il barbiere di Siviglia both times singing Figaro and the most recent one in Carmen as

Escamillo.

In addition to opera, he sees a great desire to perform lied cycles, regularly collaborating with pianists

Barbara Verhovnik, Tanja Šterman and Nejc Lavrenčič.

He is the recipient of the award for promising singer under 24 in the field of solo singing at the SGSM

international competition and the 2nd prize of the SpevSlam 2021 competition.

Education:

Completed primary school in Šoštanj in 2010 Higher musical education at Music School Velenje under

the mentorship of Prof. Tee Plazl Enrolled in the Velenje Art Gymnasium and further developed as a

pianist with Prof. Jelka Hrovat and Prof. Jerneja Grebenšek 5-year student of the Music Arts program

at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, majoring in piano under the tutelage of Prof. Vladimir Mlinarić

Attended masterclasses with renowned teachers such as Laszlo Baranyay, Oleg Marschev, Aleksander

Serdar, Norma Fischer, Arbo Valdma, Ghokan Aybulus, Jasminka Stančul, Srđan Caldarović, Maciej

Zagorsky, and others.

Awards:

Gold award and silver plaque at the national competition for young musicians "TEMSIG" in 2007

Golden prize in the regional competition and golden plaque and first place with 100 points in the

international competition in Banja Luka, Serbia in collaboration with Urška Cvikl Golden prize and

second place in the national competition in collaboration with Urška Cvikl Selected as a scholarship

recipient by the Rotary Club to participate in a concert performed as part of the "Talents for Talents"

concerts in 2014.

Performances:

Soloist performances at home and abroad (Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Serbia) Four international

competitions (Legnago-Italy, Varaždin-Croatia, Petrozavodsk-Russia, Belgrade-Serbia) under the

tutelage of Prof. Mlinarić Performances in three chamber ensembles, a duo with a violinist, and a

piano duo Soloist performances at the Slovenian Philharmonic in the concert "At the Piano" in 2016

and 2018 6 full-length performances with soloist Lovro Korošec as part of GMO and a solo concert

with the Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2019/2020 concert season (cancelled due to Covid-19

epidemic) Accompanist performances in many competitions and performances both at home and

abroad.

Teaching:

Piano teacher at Orfeo and Amarilis Music Schools for three years Accompanist for young violinists,

cellists, flutists, and soloists at the Amarilis Music School Official accompanist at secondary level in

Tolmin and Velenje Music Schools Currently employed as a piano teacher and accompanist at Nazarje

Music School.

Notable Achievements:

Won the first second prize with a pupil at the international competition in Tivat, Serbia in March 2017

Received a special commendation for the best accompanist of 2019 in Varaždin Achieved 1 silver and

1 bronze plaque at the national TEMSIG competition and 3 3rd prizes at international competitions in

three years as a tutor with students at Nazarje Music School.
