Domen Vurnik | Ana Rodić

Tenor Domen Vurnik (1997) began singing more intensively in his high school years, when he became a member of more serious choral ensembles and started his first solo singing lessons with Professor Barbara Tišler at the St Stanislav's Institute Music School. He continued his studies at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet, where he graduated with honours in 2020 under the tutelage of Professor Janko Volčanšek. He is currently studying singing at the Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana in the class of Professor Barbara Jernejčič Fürst. He has sung in prominent Slovenian choral ensembles - Vox Carniola Jesenice, the St Stanislav's Mixed Choir, the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet Chamber Choir and the St Nicholas Choir Litija, in which he has often taken solo roles and collaborated with renowned Slovenian conductors - Damijan Močnik, Ambrož Čopi and Helena Fojkar Zupančič. In recent years, he has participated as a chorus member in productions of the Slovenian National Opera and Ballet Ljubljana and in concerts of the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir. He has attended masterclasses with Snežana Nena Brzaković, Marcos Fink, Barbara Jernejčič Fürst and Nejc Lavrenčič. In December 2021 he sang the title role (Poponel) in Giancarlo Menotti's opera The Boy Who Grew Too Fast. In March 2022, he won bronze in the TEMSIG competition. In April 2022 he gave a recital at the Mozart Family Days at Polhov Gradec Manor. In January 2023 he made his debut on the stage of the Ljubljana National Opera House with the role of the Poet in Miha Nahtigal's opera Ognjena roža as part of the project "Miniopere III". He is also completing his studies in speech therapy and sign language pedagogy at the Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana.
